【Indications】

This product is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of specific bacteria in patients aged 18 years and older, including: complicated skin and soft tissue infections caused by Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis (vancomycin-susceptible strains only), Staphylococcus aureus (both methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant strains), Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus anginosus group (including S. anginosus, S. intermedius, and S. constellatus), Streptococcus pyogenes, and Bacteroides fragilis; and complicated intra-abdominal infections caused by Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter cloacae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella oxytoca, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis (vancomycin-susceptible strains only), Staphylococcus aureus (methicillin-susceptible strains only), Streptococcus anginosus group (including S. anginosus, S. intermedius, and S. constellatus), Bacteroides fragilis, Bacteroides ovatus, Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, Bacteroides uniformis, Bacteroides vulgatus, Clostridium perfringens, and Peptostreptococcus micros. Appropriate specimens should be obtained for microbiological testing to isolate and identify the causative pathogens and determine their susceptibility to tigecycline. This product may be used as empirical monotherapy before test results are available. To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of tigecycline and other antibiotics, this product should be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. Once culture and susceptibility results are available, antimicrobial therapy should be adjusted accordingly. In the absence of such data, local epidemiology and susceptibility patterns should guide empirical treatment.
